Football News: Manchester United midfielder Marcel Sabitzer ruled out for rest of season

Marcel Sabitzer will miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury, according to Manchester United.

Sabitzer joined the Red Devils on loan from German heavyweights Bayern Munich in January, signing until the conclusion of the 2022-23 season.

Sabitzer has scored three goals and contributed one assist in 18 competitive outings for the 20-time English champions.

However, due to a knee injury, the Austria international missed Saturday's 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Man United have confirmed that the Bayern Munich loanee will miss the rest of the season due to a meniscus injury.

"Everyone at the club is disappointed to lose Marcel's services, as we strive for a strong finish to our season in the Premier League and the FA Cup,"

Man United said on their club website.

"We appreciate his contribution to our progress so far. We would like to wish Marcel well in having a speedy recovery."

Sabitzer's injury means he will miss the FA Cup final against Manchester City, as well as league games against Bournemouth, Chelsea, and Fulham.

With Sabitzer due to return to Bayern Munich at the conclusion of the season, he may have played his final game in a Manchester United shirt.

According to BBC Sport, Manchester United have not decided whether to pursue a permanent transfer for the 29-year-old.

Sabitzer's absence adds to Erik ten Hag's injury worries, which also include Lisandro Martinez and Donny van de Beek.

Scott Mc Tominay is also out with an injury, and Marcus Rashford's fitness is in doubt after missing the win over Wolves.

Man United, who are now fourth in the Premier League, are preparing for their away encounter against Bournemouth on Saturday.
