Football News: Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk seeing specialist over hamstring injury?

Virgil van Dijk, a defender for Liverpool, is anticipated to see a doctor about the hamstring injury he suffered against Brentford. Van Dijk has started each of Liverpool's 17 Premier League games thus far, although he will likely miss some time due to injury.

In Monday's Premier League loss to Brentford, the Dutchman was replaced by Joel Matip after being pulled out at the interval. The Reds trailed 2-0 at the break thanks to goals from Yoane Wissa and Ibrahima Konate. Although Alex Oxlade-first Chamberlain's goal of the year cut the Reds' deficit in half in the 50th minute,

Bryan Mbuemo's third goal for Brentford late in the game sealed the Reds' 3-1 loss. Jurgen Klopp stated that Van Dijk had been removed as a precaution after the dismal outcome, but it was later found that the problem was more serious than initially thought.

His hamstring problem was discovered by first scans, and he will now go through more testing. The center-back is anticipated to consult a specialist to determine the severity of the hamstring issue, according to The Athletic.

Van Dijk will be out of commission for at least a month, according to the preliminary evaluation, but the consultation with the expert should shed further light on the matter.

The Dutchman has made 24 starts for Liverpool in all competitions this season, and he has managed to score twice, tallying goals in Premier League triumphs over Bournemouth and Aston Villa.

Klopp will have to use his other defensive alternatives since the Reds can no longer rely on Van Dijk's assistance.

The obvious possibilities to team up at centre back are Matip and Konate, although Joe Gomez and Nat Phillips can also fill in when necessary.

As for Klopp's present injury concerns, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota are both out due to calf and knee issues, respectively, so Van Dijk's absence raises more questions.

Since coming on loan from Juventus in the summer, Arthur Melo has had trouble staying in shape, and James Milner, Jordan Henderson, and Roberto Firmino were all sidelined for the Brentford loss.

The Reds will start defending the FA Cup they won last year when they play Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday. Klopp's team is now preparing for that match.

After that, Liverpool will return to Premier League play with a goal of closing the five-point gap to the top four.
