Football News: Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount in favour of Manchester United move?

Mason Mount is expected to join Manchester United if Chelsea does not make a better contract offer.

For some months, the academy graduate has been linked with a transfer away from Stamford Bridge, owing to a breakdown in negotiations over new terms.

Mount is understood to want parity with some of his teammates, although Chelsea's owners would want Mount to agree to a lower income spread over a longer contract.

While a resolution is still possible, with Mauricio Pochettino desperate to keep the England international, it is also seen as more unlikely.

With Chelsea looking to bolster their position with FFP, Mount will be unable to complete the remaining year of his contract, effectively forcing the West Londoners to entertain offers.

According to a report published earlier on Tuesday, Manchester United is set to launch a formal bid for the 24-year-old in the coming weeks.

Mount, according to The Athletic, would embrace such a proposition, with a move to Old Trafford his preferred option if he left Chelsea.

According to the source, talks between the clubs and relevant parties could take place in the near future, with an agreement that would benefit all parties involved.

Mount has admirers at a number of other teams, notably Arsenal and Liverpool, both of which are looking to bolster their midfield and creative areas.

Nonetheless, it appears like United will win the fight for Mount provided they can agree on a deal with their Chelsea colleagues.

According to the Daily Mail, United are willing to pay £55 million for Mount, while Chelsea are asking £85 million.

Despite a disappointing 2022-23 season, Mount has provided 33 goals and 37 assists in 195 Chelsea appearances.

Mount has been out with a pelvic injury since the middle of April, but he is anticipated to be ready for pre-season with whichever team he is with at the time.
