Done Deal: Tottenham Hotspur reach full agreement to sign defender

According to reports, Pedro Porro's transfer to Tottenham Hotspur has been fully agreed upon by Sporting Lisbon.

The 22-year-old has been closely associated with the North Londoners throughout the January transfer window, as Antonio Conte has been eager to expand his options at right wing-back.

Sporting had consistently claimed that it will not consider any bids that fall below Porro's €45 million (£39.5 million) release clause. Thus, it appeared to have broken their verbal agreement with Spurs, raising concerns that the transaction would fall through.

When Porro learned that his move to North London had encountered a significant road block,he was left "distraught" and missed training on Monday.

After Sporting's defeat to Porto in the Taca da Liga final on Saturday, Porro apparently received word from Sporting president Frederico Varandas that he would be let to depart.

Porro played the entire 90 minutes in that game and was spotted waving goodbye to the Sporting fans. Fabrizio Romano, a transfer analyst, claims that the transaction is almost complete and that Tottenham has agreed to activate Porro's release clause.

Romano adds that Spurs have rescheduled the defender's medical exams that were scheduled for Tuesday, and the move will be finalised as soon as all the required paperwork has been filed.

Following the arrival of Arnaut Danjuma, an attacker who has joined Tottenham on loan from Villarreal for the remainder of the season, Porro is set to become the club's second acquisition of the January transfer window.

Porro joined Sporting in August 2020 on a two-year loan deal before making his transfer permanent the following year after spending three years playing for Manchester City without making a single appearance at the Etihad Stadium.

With 12 goals and 20 assists in 98 appearances across all competitions, Porro has since solidified himself as an important cog in Ruben Amorim's machinery.

The right wing-back position in Conte's team is presently being contested by Tottenham's Emerson Royal, Matt Doherty, and Djed Spence, though the latter is reportedly close to temporarily departing the team.

Spence, who has played just six times for Spurs this season, has reportedly made the decision to join Ligue 1 team Rennes on loan for the balance of the 2022-23 season, according to journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.
