IPL 2023 - Rohit not battling with the bowlers but with himself: Sehwag

Former India batsman Virender Sehwag has spoken out about Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma's poor performance in the upcoming IPL 2023. Notably, the captain has struggled to score much and has two ducks in a row in the last two games.

Ahead of the highly anticipated match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Sehwag pondered on Rohit's disappointing performance and noted that his difficulties have been more mental than mechanical.

"Rohit Sharma is not battling with the bowlers but with himself. There is a mental block. There's no problem with his batting technique. Some confusion is going on in his mind. But the day he gets going, we will make up for all the previous matches,"

Sehwag told Star Sports.

In 10 games this season, Rohit has only scored 184 runs at an unimpressive average of 18.40. In addition, during the match against arch-rivals CSK, he registered his 16th duck, the most in the history of the top-tier competition.

Imran Tahir, a former South African cricketer, praised RCB batsman Virat Kohli's dedication and hard work in the same part. Tahir added that the flamboyant batter's desire to score runs consistently for the last 15 years was admirable.

"Virat Kohli has always had the urge to score runs. You can score maximum runs in one season, two or three seasons, but if you are successful in doing this for 15 consecutive seasons, then it can be attributed to the result of your hard work and dedication. What Virat has done in the last 15 years is really commendable,"

Tahir told on Star Sports.

Despite receiving a lot of criticism for his batting style, Kohli has scored 419 runs at an average of 46.56, with six fifties to his name. On Tuesday, May 9, RCB and MI will play a critical encounter, the outcome of which will determine qualifying for the play-offs.
