IPL 2023: Chahal becomes joint-highest wicket taker in IPL history

On Sunday, May 7, the inaugural champions Rajasthan Royals faced the Aiden Markram-led Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 52nd game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

Rajasthan batted first and scored 214 runs in the first innings, with to brilliant efforts by Sanju Samson and Jos Buttler, but Sunrisers Hyderabad responded in kind. Brilliant top-order knocks and a late blitzkrieg by Glenn Phillips lifted Hyderabad to their fourth victory of the season.

Yuzvendra Chahal was the biggest wicket-taker for Rajasthan during the run chase, taking four wickets and conceding 29 runs in four overs. His impressive performance saw him match former Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Dwayne Bravo as the IPL's joint-highest wicket-taker.

With 183 wickets in 142 games in the IPL, Chahal ranked first on the list of the tournament's highest wicket-takers. Along with Bravo, Ravichandran Ashwin, Piyush Chawla, and Amit Mishra are among those in the top five.

Chahal is currently seventh in the IPL 2023 purple cap race, having taken 17 wickets in 11 matches. Chahal, who won the highest wicket-taker award in 2022, would like to continue his amazing exploits in the current season as well.

Hyderabad made a strong start in chasing the massive mark of 215 runs, with Anmolpreet Singh and Abhishek Sharma scoring 33 and 55 runs, respectively. In addition, Rahul Tripathi scored 47 runs in 29 deliveries.

Glenn Phillips smashed Kuldip Yadav for three consecutive sixes in the first three balls of the 19th over, with 41 runs needed in the final two overs.

Furthermore, when Sandeep Sharma won the game for Rajasthan off the final delivery, it was ruled a no-ball, and Hyderabad took advantage of the free hit to win by four wickets.
