Cricket News: Two Indian cricketers made it to the ICC Men’s ODI Team of the Year 2022

The Men's ODI Team of the Year for 2022 was unveiled by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Tuesday (January 24). Following strong seasons, Indian players Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur were selected to the team, while Yuzvendra Chahal and batter Shreyas Iyer were left off from the Men's team of the year.

The top eleven cricketers who dominated ODIs in 2022 are led by Pakistan's ace batter Babar Azam for the second year in a row. All nine of Pakistan's ODI matches in 2022 were played by Babar, who amassed 679 runs at an average of 84.87 and helped Pakistan win eight of them.

However, no other Pakistani cricketer made the team in 2022, despite their losing just one ODI game.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz, a bowling all-rounder from Bangladesh, was also selected for the team, although there are no representatives from England, South Africa, or Sri Lanka.

Alzarri Joseph and Shai Hope have been added to the team despite West Indies' struggles with outcomes last year due to their outstanding individual performances.

Travis Head, an Australian opener, and Adam Zampa, who has 30 wickets from 12 innings and was the top ODI wicket-taker in 2022, are both on the roster. Trent Boult, a star pacer for New Zealand, only participated in six ODIs in 2022, but he surprised everyone by taking 18 wickets to be selected.

After a poor 2021 season, no Indian cricketers were selected for the ODI team last year. There are actually two of them this time. With 724 runs from 15 innings at an average of 55.69 and a strike rate of 91.52 thanks to 166 fifty-plus, Shreyas was the top run-scorer in ODIs in 2022. Despite not playing in the Asia Cup or the T20 World Cup in 2022, he was India's top run-scorer across all formats in that year.

Mohammed Siraj, an effective pacer, has recently been India's top bowler in white-ball cricket. In his 15 ODI innings in 2022, he took 24 wickets at an average of 23.50 and a 4.62 economy rate. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami's recent injuries have made Siraj India's primary pacer across all forms.

ICC Men's ODI Team of the Year 2022:

Babar Azam (Pakistan & Captain), Travis Head (Australia), Sahi Hope (West Indies), Shreyas Iyer (India), Tom Latham (New Zealand and WK), Mehidy Hasan Miraz (Bangladesh), Alzarri Joseph (West Indies), Mohammed Siraj (India), Trent Boult (New Zealand), Adam Zampa (Australia)
