Cricket News: Rohit Sharma provides massive update on Jasprit Bumrah ahead of Australia series

Team India's captain Rohit Sharma gave a significant update on the pace king Jasprit Bumrah ahead of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Following victories in back-to-back 50-over series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand, Rohit Sharma and company are in fine form.

After winning the final ODI played in Indore by 90 runs, the Men in Blue declared a 3-0 series victory over the Black Caps. After the convincing victory, Rohit answered to a question about Jasprit Bumrah's rejoining the squad.

The Indian paceman is out of the team after suffering an issue with a back ailment. In addition, Rohit stated that he wanted the pacer to play in the final two red-ball games against Australia.

"About (Jasprit) Bumrah, I am not too sure at the moment. The first two Test matches, of course, he is not going to be available. I am expecting...I am hoping, not expecting, that he plays the next (last) two Test matches (against Australia). We don't want to take any risks with him as back injuries are always critical. We have a lot of cricket coming back after that as well,"

Said the Indian skipper.

"We are in constant touch with physios and doctors in NCA. We will monitor. The medical team will give him as much time as he wants,"

he added.

Rohit and company will turn their attention to the Test series against Australia beginning on February 9.However, the Men in Blues will lock horns against New Zealand in a 3 match T20 series.

Thereafter, the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur will host the opening Test between India & Australia.

The month-long red-ball series, which will determine which team advances to the championship match of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 cycle, will prove to be crucial.

After the red-ball series is over in March, the two teams will also play three one-day internationals. The three-match ODI series will be crucial for both teams to comprehend squad dynamics in light of the ODI World Cup in 2023.
